Imagine, for a moment, the reaction of Hell to the death of Christ. Jesus was bound with the bands of death. What celebration and joy! God was defeated! Vengeance was the Devil’s. But they reckoned without the wisdom of God. For Christ could not be held down by the bands of death. In fact through death He was paralyzing the one who had the power of death, and He was setting His people free (Heb. 2:14-15). What seemed to be defeat was actually victory. The Resurrection morning was Hell’s gloomiest day. Satan saw the wisdom of God and tasted defeat.
The only people who are ever interested in revival are evangelicals, and a good way of testing the quality of a man’s evangelicalism is his interest in revival. The institutional people do not often talk about revival. They try sometimes to pay lip-service to it but they do not believe in it… The true evangelical, on the other hand, is always longing for an outpouring of the Spirit, and the great evangelical reawakenings have always been a result of an effusion of the Holy Spirit. The evangelical by nature is tremendously interested in revival.
Cream shortening and sugar. Add candied peel, citron, currants, crumbs,
nutmeg, cinnamon, and egg. Mix thoroughly. Cut plain pastry in rounds 6
inches in diameter. Place 1 tablespoon of fruit mixture on 1/2 of each
round. Moisten edges. Fold like a turnover. Press edges together. Crimp.
Brush with slightly beaten egg, or water. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake in hot
oven (450 F) 10 minutes, or until brown.
