God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)
As in the parable of the pounds (minas in the NIV; Luke 19:12-27), where each servant was given the same amount of money, we each have been given the same amount of time. But few of us use it so wisely as to produce a tenfold return. The parable recognizes different abilities; the servant with less capacity but equal faithfulness received the same reward. We are not responsible for our endowments or natural abilities but we are responsible for the strategic use of time.
For His part, God forgives our sins, reveals His glory, rescues us from our heart of disbelief with its life of disobedience, and brings us back to Himself again and again so that we might learn to live by faith in His promises. For our part, Abraham, as the "father" of the faithful (Rom. 4:16-17), is the beginning of a people who respond by learning over a lifetime to look to God alone to meet their needs.

Put almonds in a shallow pan. Toast at 350F for 10 minutes. Cool. Chop
coarsely. Mix flour, sugar, baking soda, salt and nuts in a large mixing
bowl. In a separate bowl, beat eggs, vanilla, almond extract and zert
about 1 minute. Add to flour mixture. Cut dough in half. On a greased and
floured baking sheet, pat dough into two logs, 1/2" thick x 1-1/2" wide and
12" long. Place logs 2" apart. Bake in a preheated 300F over for 50 minutes
or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes. With a serrated
knife, cut loaves at 45 degree angle, 1/2" thick (16-10 pieces). Lay slices
flat on a baking sheet. Cook at 275F for 20-25 minutes, turning once. Store
