Our real problem is not our sins. If our sins were the problem, we might muster the will-power to pull out of this nose dive. But the good news of the gospel begins with some really bad news. Our sins only provoke a bigger problem: the wrath of God. Our real problem is not our sins but God. He is angry, He isn’t going away, and there is nothing we can do about it. If God is against us, who can be for us? But here is the good news. God has made God our salvation. He did it at the cross. God has provided a way of escape from God: in God. We run from His wrath by running toward His grace in Christ. And if God is for us, who can be against us?
It is commonly said that covetousness is one of the reigning sins of old age. How strange that it should be so! Especially considering what they have seen, and known, and it may be, felt of the emptiness and uncertainty of riches. They have witnessed how often they make themselves wings. What! And not yet convinced! What! Almost at the end of thy journey, and yet loading thyself with thick clay! Think of the time of day. It is almost night; even sun-set. And art thou unmindful of the grave? The body is bending downwards, let the heart be upwards.
Crush berries with sugar, cover and let stand overnight. Press through a
cheesecloth lined sieve, extracting as much juice as possible. Mix in lemon
juice. Taste for sweetness - if too tart, add sugar, stirring until
dissolved. Pour into bottle, cover and refrigerate. Serve as is on the
rocks in punch cups or small glasses. OR, half fill a tall glass with
shrub, add ice, and fill with club soda. OR, pour into punch cups and top
each serving with a scoop of tart sherbet.
