We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

Let us all be on our guard against the love of money. The world is full of it in our days. The plague is abroad. Thousands who would abhor the idea of worshiping Juggernaut, are not ashamed to make an idol of gold. We are all liable to the infection, from the least to the greatest. We may love money without having it, just as we may have money without loving it. It is an evil that works very deceitfully. It carries us captives before we are aware of our chains. Once let it get the mastery, and it will harden, paralyze, scorch, freeze, blight, and wither our souls. It overthrew an apostle of Christ. Let us take heed that it does not overthrow us. One leak may sink a ship. One unmortified sin may ruin a soul.

The Bible says Judas delivered Him over (Mark 3:19), and Pilate delivered Him over (Mark 15:15), and Herod and the Jewish people and the Gentiles delivered Him over (Acts 4:27-28), and we delivered Him over (1 Corinthians 15:3; Galatians 1:4; 1 Peter 2:24). It even says Jesus delivered Himself over (John 10:17; 19:30). But Paul said the ultimate thing (in Romans 8:32a). In and behind and beneath and through all these human deliverings, God was delivering His Son to death. “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all.” In Judas and Pilate and Herod and Jewish crowds and Gentile soldiers and our sin and Jesus’ lamblike submission, God delivered over His Son (for our salvation). Nothing greater has ever happened.

INSTRUCTIONS

ROAST
SAUCE
1 ea Chicken 3 tb Butter 1/2 tb Mustard, Dijon 1/2 c Juice, orange 1/4 c
Sugar, brown 1 tb Cornstarch 1/4 c Water 1/8 c Vodka
Cut chickens in half lengthwise. Blend butter and mustard together. Rub
chicken inside and out with this mixture. Place chicken, skin side down, in
baking dish with tight-fitting cover.
Preheat oven to 375. Combine orange juice and brown sugar, stirring until
sugar is completely dissolved. Pour over and around chicken. Cover and bake
for 30 minutes.
Turn chicken over, baste with pan juices, and continue to bake, uncovered,
for 20 minutes longer, basting occasionally.
Remove chicken to heated platter and keep warm. Mix cornstarch with water.
Stir this into juices from pan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly,
until thickened. Remove from heat, stir in vodka, and pour sauce over
chicken.
Sylvia's comments: I'm unenthusiastic about this one, and I'm not sure why.
The chicken was pretty bland, but chicken usually tastes bland to me, and
the sauce was certainly flavorful. The combination of mustard and orange
juice didn't do a thing for my taste buds. It also took about 1/2 hour
longer to bake than the recipe called for. Next time, I think I'll leave
out the mustard/butter rub, add a little pumpkin pie spice to the orange
juice/brown sugar mixture, and cook the whole mess in the crockpot rather
than the oven.
