We Love God!

God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)

Perhaps the transformation of the disciples of Jesus is the greatest evidence of all for the resurrection. At the time of His death they were very much afraid. Peter went to the extent of vehemently denying that he knew Christ. But in a few days this same Peter fearlessly proclaimed the Gospel in the same city. Listen to his audacity: “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus. You handed Him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though He had decided to let him go. You disowned the Holy and righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you” (Acts 3:13-14). There had to have been a sufficient reason for such a transformation.
John Stott

Modern Christians, especially those in the Western world, have generally been found wanting in the area of holiness of body. Gluttony and laziness, for example, were regarded by earlier Christians as sin. Today we may look on these as weaknesses of the will but certainly not sin. We even joke about our overeating and other indulgences instead of crying out to God in confession and repentance.

INSTRUCTIONS

CAKE
ICING
Preheat oven to 375F. Grease 2 8-9-inch cake pans. Cream the butter and
sugar until light and fluffy. Sift the flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa
into a bowl. Add the orange rind to the creamed butter and beat in the
eggs, one at a time, including a spoonful of the measured flour mixture
with each one, and beating well between additions. Gently mix in the
Guinness, a tablespoonful at a time, including another spoonful of flour
with each addition. If there's any flour left over, fold it in gently to
mix; blend thoroughly without over-beating. Divide the mixture between the
tins, smooth down, and put the cakes into the center of the preheated oven.
Reduce the heat to moderate (350F) and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the
cakes are springy to the touch and shrinking slightly in the pans. Turn out
and cool on a wire rack. . Meanwhile, make the icing. Cream the softened
butter and icing sugar together thoroughly, then blend in the grated orange
rind and enough juice to make an icing that is soft enough to spread. When
the cakes are cold, use half the icing to sandwich them together, and
spread the rest on top.
