People are not prepared or able to rejoice in suffering unless they experience a massive biblical revolution of how they think and feel about the meaning of life. Human nature and American culture make it impossible to rejoice in suffering. This is a miracle in the human soul wrought by God through His Word.
Heat oven to 350 F. Grease bottom only of 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. In large
mixer bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda,
salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add shortening, eggs and applesauce; beat just
until blended. Stir in pecans. Spoon mixture into prepared pan. Bake 50 to
55 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15
minutes; remove from pan to wire rack. Cool completely. Prepare VANILLA
GLAZE; drizzle over bread. 1 loaf (14 servings).
VANILLA GLAZE: In small bowl, stir together 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 3 to
4 teaspoons milk. About 1/4 cup glaze.
