False prophets are to be found in the circles of the most orthodox, and they pretend to have a fervent love for souls, yet they fatally delude multitudes concerning the way of salvation. The pulpit, platform, and pamphlet hucksters have wantonly lowered the standard of divine holiness and so adulterated the Gospel in order to make it palatable to the carnal mind.
The Bible clearly reminds us that left to ourselves, we would be lost forever. The only reason we can seek Christ in our sinfulness is because Christ has sought us as our Savior. The glory of the gospel is that the God of the universe reaches beyond the hardness of our hearts, overcoming our selfish resistance and sinful rebellion, and He saves us from ourselves. Such mercy magnifies God’s pursuit of us and crucifies our pride before Him.
Mix fat and peanut butter with sugar until smooth. Sift together
flour, salt and cinnamon. Mix with butter and sugar until crumbly.
Reserve 1/3 c. of mixture. Beat egg, add milk, soda and baking powder
mixed with second c. flour. Combine mixture. Add floured currants or
raisins. Put in greased and floured baking pan, cover with the 1/3 c.
crumbs. Bake in over 375 F. for 30 minutes.
