Apple And Marzipan Presents

INGREDIENTS

4 sm Cox''s apples; peeled and cored
1 tb Lemon juice
125 g Golden marzipan; (4oz)
1 375 gram pac fresh sweet shortcrust pastry
Beaten egg or milk to glaze
1 tb Caster sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C, 350 °F, Gas Mark 4.
2. Trim the apples into squares and brush with lemon juice.
3. Fill the apple cavities with marzipan, and press remaining
marzipan on top of the apples to form a flat, square surface.
4. Divide the pastry into 4 and roll out each portion into a square
large enough to wrap around the apple.
5. Place an apple, marzipan side down in the centre of a pastry
square and bring up the sides to enclose the apple, sealing the
edges. Place seam down on a lightly greased baking tray and repeat
process with remaining apples.
6. Use pastry trimmings to form ribbons to decorate the ''presents''.
7. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle over the sugar. Bake in the
preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until golden.
Alternative ingredients- -Any small apple or pear may be used instead
of coxs. -White marzipan is a suitable alternative to golden. -Try
cutting shapes from any remaining pastry to decorate the ''parcels''
for example flowers or holly leaves for Christmas.
