God: "I looked for someone to take a stand for me, and stand in the gap" (Ezekiel 22:30)
Contrary to what might be expected, I look back on experiences that at the time seemed especially desolating and painful, with particular satisfaction. Indeed, I can say with complete truthfulness that everything I have learned in my seventy five years in this world, everything that has truly enhanced and enlightened my existence, has been through affliction and not through happiness, whether pursued or attained... This, of course, is what the Cross signifies. And it is the Cross, more than anything else, that has called me inexorably to Christ.

Cream sauce (use recipe for "Creamed Chipped Beef")
INSTRUCTIONS
This one is from New Hampshire. My lady friends there told me that they
had this for breakfast often as little girls. While I don't want you eating
bacon every morning, there is something to be said for a few slices of
old-fashioned cured New England bacon. A lot can be said!
The cream sauce can be made a day or two ahead and then warmed in the
microwave in no time.
Place the bacon on the toast and top with cream sauce. Then pour black
coffee and open the windows so that you can smell the fresh New Hampshire
air. (This works best if you are in New Hampshire!)
