INGREDIENTS

1/4 c Butter
2 c Sugar plus more for sprinkling
2 Eggs
4 c Flour
1 ts Baking soda
1 c Buttermilk

INSTRUCTIONS

Cream the butter and sugar, add the eggs, mix well.  Add in the flour.
Dissolve the baking soda in the buttermilk and stir into the dough.
Gather the dough together in one lump, cover with plastic wrap, and
chill for 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 375F.  On a well-floured board, roll out dough to a
sheet 1/8 inch thick.  Sprinkle the dough with sugar and press the
sugar lightly into the dough with a rolling pin.  cut into desired
shapes.
Bake on greased cookie sheets for 6 to 8 inches.  Yield: 60 small
