[Baptism by immersion is] the usual form of the original meaning of the Greek baptidzein and baptismos; from the analogy of John’s baptism in the Jordan; from the apostle’s comparison of the sacred rite with the miraculous passage of the Red Sea, with the escape of the ark from the flood, with a cleansing and refreshing bath, and with burial and resurrection; finally, from the general custom of the ancient church, which prevails in the East to this day.

INGREDIENTS

1	pk	(8-oz) cream cheese
1/2	c	Apple butter*
1/4	c	Brown sugar
1/2	ts	Vanilla
1/2	c	Peanuts, chopped
		Apples

INSTRUCTIONS

Place all ingredients except peanuts and apples in a bowl. Mix until
smooth.  Stir in chopped peanuts.  Chill.  Just before serving, slice
apples, arrange around dip and serve.
*variation: Substitute 1 can (8oz) crushed pinapple, drained for the apple
butter.

In one of his sermons, Spurgeon reminded his congregation about the doctrine of God’s electing some from the foundation of the world. But he noted that our task is to preach the gospel to every creature, not to find the elect. Spurgeon reportedly said that if God had painted a yellow strip down the back of each of the elect, he would run up and down the streets of London, lifting up shirttails, and preaching the gospel to the elect. But Spurgeon reminds us that God has not done so. Instead He has commanded us to “preach the gospel to every creature.” We must urgently appeal to everyone to come to Christ.
