INSTRUCTIONS
Place slices of bread in a large shallow pan. In a large bowl beat
eggs with milk, sugar, vanilla and spices. Strain mixture over the
bread. Turn bread over and allow to soak at least 20 minutes or until
ready to bake.
Place butter in the bottom of a 9"x13"/3.5L baking dish. Place in a
preheated 375F/190C oven for 5 to 8 minutes until just melted.
Carefully remove from oven.(Remember that the pan is hot!) Sprinkle
evenly with brown sugar. Press sugar into the butter. Arrange slices
of fruit if you wish.
Arrange bread in dish in a single layer and pour any egg mixture left
in dish over the bread.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until bread is puffed and browned well.
Remove from oven, cool 5 minutes and serve by cutting through the
edges of the slices of bread and inverting them (with the juices and
fruit if using) on individual serving plates.
