So often when we struggle with the doctrine of predestination and election it is because our eyes are always fixed on the difficulty of resolving predestination with human freedom. The Bible, however, links them with salvation, which every Christian should find enormously comforting. Salvation is not an afterthought of God. The redemption of His people, the salvation of His church, my eternal salvation, these actions are not a postscript to the Divine activity. Instead, from the very foundation of the world, God had a sovereign plan to save a significant portion of the human race, and He moves heaven and earth to bring it to pass.

INGREDIENTS

1	c	Graham cracker crumbs
3/4	c	Sugar
1/4	c	Melted butter plus
2	tb	Melted butter
1 1/2	c	Sour cream
2		Eggs
1	tb	Flour
2	ts	Vanilla
16	oz	Cream cheese, softened
1/2	c	Coarsely crushed candy canes
		Whipped cream, chocolate
		Leaves, and more coarsely
		Chopped candy canes

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 325.  Blend graham cracker crumbs, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1/4
cup melted butter in bottom of ungreased 8" springform pan; press mixture
evenly over bottom.  In blender or food processor, blend sour cream,
remaining 1/2 cup sugar, eggs, flour and vanilla until smooth.  Add cream
cheese and blend; then blend in 2 tablespoons remaining melted butter until
completely smooth.  Stir in crushed candy canes, then pour mixture over
crust in pan.  Bake in lower third of oven for 45 minutes.  Remove; allow
to cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
The chocolate leaves will form the petals of a poinsettia flower, with the
crushed candy canes in the very center.

Your own disobedience in the past will not ultimately keep your child from becoming a believer. It is pointless to berate yourself for any wrong behavior on your part as if it were the reason your child is without Christ. This does not mean that we as parents should not repent and do better, and even admit wrong to our children. But the reason your child is without Christ is related to his or her own sin. Every parent is sinful and inconsistent. This has never been a barrier to God if He desires to save your child. Illustrations abound of children who come from far less godly families who are nonetheless converted to Christ. In fact, this may have been the case in your own experience.
