To have the same love is to love others equally. On a purely emotional level, having equal love for others is impossible, because people are not equally attractive. Love, however, is the love of will, not of preference or attraction. It is based on an intellectual, conscious choice to seek the welfare of its object. It is because agape (love) is based on the will that it can be commanded.

Jesus is talking to a young man. He is a rich young man; see the beautiful clothes he is wearing. He has come to Jesus to ask what good thing he shall do, so he may go to heaven after he dies and be happy there with the angels. Jesus tells the young man he must do these things: love his father and mother; speak the truth; be honest in all things; and be kind to his neighbors. The young man says he has done all this since he was a little boy. When Jesus heard that he said, There is yet one thing more for you to do ; sell everything you have, and give the money to the poor; then come and follow me. When the rich young man heard this he was very sorry, and went away, for he could not bear to become poor even for Jesus.

In 2007, Islamic scholars essentially told the Pope ‘we should talk’ …

“If Muslims and Christians are not at peace, the world cannot be at peace. With the terrible weaponry of the modern world; with Muslims and Christians intertwined everywhere as never before, no side can unilaterally win a conflict between more than half of the world’s inhabitants. Our common future is at stake,”

  • Sixteen years later…
    • Iran is on the verge of achieving their nuclear ambitions under a regime that wants Israel to cease to exist
    • Nuclear-equipped Russia has invaded Ukraine for unjust reasons, destroying the country day by day for the past year
    • North Korea is strutting their war-readiness offensively
    • China is waging a technology war

This is not just Islam against Christian – it is nation against nation.  That phrase “nation against nation” sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

2 Chronicles 15:  They were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God troubled them with all adversity.

Why?

Yahweh is with you, while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

So what happens when we are right with God?

All Judah rejoiced at the oath (to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul), for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found by them. Then Yahweh gave them rest all around.
