Our family has used this recipe for years. Let cream cheese come to room
temperature. Mix in powder sugar until smooth. Add vanilla. Mix in desired
color pastes. Frost cookies and let frosting completely dry, about 1 hour.
Store layers of cookies with wax paper in between. You can use food
coloring, but you will need a little more powder sugar. The wilton pastes
are great, very color intense and they have no taste; red and even black!
