ACTS iv. 31.
“They were filled with the Holy Spirit.”
LOOK wistfully at the circumstances under which the Spirit
works.
I. The Spirit of God will not work where He is not
recognised. We must have faith in His power, in His
promise, and His living agency.
II. The presence of the Holy Spirit is for the most part
richly enjoyed when there is united prayer.
III. The Holy Spirit will only work in a Church where
they are harmonious and at one.
IV. The Spirit of God will not bless that Church with
heavenly endowments which aims to hoard up its tempo-
ralities instead of laying out its substance in the cause of
the Master.
V. The Church which seeks the power and presence of
the Holy Ghost must be holy in character and obedient
to the heavenly counsels.
