BASIC R.C. BELIEF From PURGATORY, Catholic Information Society, Imp. John Whealon, page 10. “In demonstrating the reasonableness of a doctrine, theologians use what they call an `argument of fitness.’ What this means is that once a doctrine is revealed, it can be shown to be consistent with all the rest of revealed doctrine. It `fits’ in very well with God’s ways of doing things and, further, appears as `not unreasonable.’ Or to state this another way, the doctrine can be shown to be credible.”
