Dear Hope Chest friends,

For the past three years, I have produced the Learner's Journal, a lesson planner and resource log that has been successfully used by dozens of families. Each year, the proceeds have been used for a personal mission project: Christmas boxes for Mexico, care boxes for pastors in the Ukraine, or gift baskets for international students at UCF. This year, the profits will be donated to Pastor Headson Makazinga for Bible distribution in the villages of Malawi.   As it works out, for each Learner's Journal you buy, one Chichewa language Bible can be given out.

I'm ready now to produce the 2003 Learner's Journal.   It will be available for a VERY LIMITED TIME!  I need ALL orders in by July 29th, so I can get them from the printer all at once and get them sent out in time for school. The Learner's Journals are $10 per copy. If you buy three or more, you can take a $1 discount per copy. Shipping is 10%, with a minimum of $2.50. Florida residents pay 7% sales tax.

Let me also describe the Learner's Journal for you right now.

A Learner's Journal is suitable for ONE child each year. It is simple enough for a child to keep his or her own records easily.

The Learner's Journal is spiral-bound, plastic covered, and available in six colors: ivory, solar yellow, lunar blue, rocket red, pulsar pink and terra green. (Sorry, now purple this year.) The front cover is simple and elegant, suitable for all ages. The back cover has several witty and profound quotes about books.   My children like to draw pictures on the front cover.

In the front, there is an annual section, with planning tips for parents, and forms for Major Resources Used this Year, Most Important Literature, Special Accomplishments & Projects, Field Trip Summary and Progress Samples.

Next comes the weekly section. For each of 50 weekly page spreads, there is a lesson planning / recording page on the left and a resource log on the right. The lesson planning page has nine lesson blocks, each with wide five lines for writing. Three of the blocks are unlabeled, while the others are marked Character Training, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science & Health, and Arts. You can use these blocks to assign lessons and/or to record what you have done. At the bottom of this page is a Schedule of Events section with blocks for Monday through Friday. This lets you keep track of activities, appointments, deadlines, etc. The resource log on the right hand page has columns for date, title, author and format/topic. This final column lets you jot down what kind of resource it is, such as "video France 1800s" or "picture book Abraham Lincoln." At the bottom of this page is a place to jot down notes about the week's progress.
