While these are certainly inspirational songs I don't know that they are soley resposible for changing the way we worship and most of them are are ten to fifteen years old. Some songs that changed the way we worship might be older than 10-15 years, if you include the Jesus songs of the 80's. Songs that influence the way we worship now would by definition have to be older than what you are singing in church now.
Any time you create such a "top 25" list there are always going to be omissions and inclusions that are arguable. For me, these are glaring omissions:
1. "You are My All in All" by Dennis Jernigan
2. "Sometimes by Step/Step by Step" by Rich Mullins
3. "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High" by Rick Founds
4. "Oh Lord, You're Beautiful" by Keith GreenReally, I don't see how any list of influential worship songs could leave "LILYNOH" off the list. But any list of influential worship music has to include these. What's missing from these four is the Nashville CCM influence, which I'm guessing is the reason for their being omitted.
The ones that I think are highly arguable:
1. Revelation Song.
2. How He LovesThe original recording of How He Loves is certainly a classic for its raw emotion. It moved me to tears the first time I heard it, which was after the hearing the story about the song. I listened to it over and over and over and heard John Mark McMillan's heart crying out to God. Truly special. But it isn't really a worship song, and none of the churches I've ever been at has used it as such. And Revelation Song? Really? I just don't get that one at all. I mean, it is a great song. But is it really influential? I don't get it.
Still, discussions like this one are a lot of fun. And that album should bless whoever buys it, and especially so because it contains some ancient (10-15 years old) worship hymns (ancient at least in terms of contemporary worship).
