I found this note I wrote in the margin of one of my old study Bibles (1970’s):

4 Kinds of People In Your Church

1. People who believe everything the preacher says.
2. People who believe what the preacher says because they already believed it.
3. People who weigh what the preacher says and determine if they believe it also.
4. People who don’t believe anything the preacher says, but they like to hear him say it anyway.
