A few notes from Virginia Knowles

Posted by: homenews <homenews@...>

Dear Hope Chest friends,

I wanted to let you know about a few things, in no particular order.

I will be doing the next Hope Chest issue on home schooling in the high school years.  I need your input on such topics as curriculum, educational opportunities outside the home, maturity, life skills and planning for the future.  If you could send even just a few sentences in, that would be helpful.  Trust me that my own perspective is limited and somewhat biased!  I want to know what has worked or not worked for your family.  If you want to stay anonymous let me know and I won't put your name in.  If you don't want my family to see your e-mail address, send it to my private password-protected address at [email protected].  I'd like to start putting this issue together in the next couple of weeks.

When I was at the Voice of the Martyrs web site (http://www.persecution.com) the other day, I signed up to receive e-news.   It came today, and when I clicked for more information on one of the stories, it took me to http://www.compassdirect.org, which I think writes the news stories that VOM sends out.  If you go to either site, there will be a link to sign up for e-news.  There may be some difference between what they send out.  I haven't figured that out yet, because I only signed up at the VOM site.  This is a good way to keep up on what is happening in the Christian community around the world.

Speaking of international injustice, Thad and I went to see the movie Hotel Rwanda last week.  It was very eye opening to learn about what one man, Paul Rusesabagina, did to rescue over 1200 people (Tutsis and Hutus) from certain death during the genocide of 1994.  Rated PG-13 for violence, disturbing images and some language, it is still well worth seeing.  None of this was for entertainment effect, but for historical accuracy.  Here is the web site for the movie. It has some educational resources on it, too.  http://www.hotelrwanda.com/intro.html  Hotel Rwanda was nominated for three Academy awards.

And, speaking of Africa, in a few days, I will be sending a check from book profits to Pastor Headson Makazinga in Malawi for use in an Easter conference he is organizing for several congregations.  I still have one copy of Common Sense Excellence and four copies of The Real Life Home School Mom in stock and unclaimed, so if you want one, let me know within the next day or so.  You can get more information at http://www.TheHopeChest.net/CSE.html, or http://www.TheHopeChest.net/RealLife.html or  http://www.TheHopeChest.net/ResourceOrders.html

Finally, please pray for me.  I have been feeling very yucky from morning sickness and heartburn lately, which has really sapped my energy.

I just realized I was supposed to pick up Julia from her Algebra II class at church five minutes ago, so I'm off!

Blessings,
Virginia Knowles
