Dear Hope Chest friends,Just a few things...I am taking my book orders to the printer today. If you haven't already let me know what you want, please e-mail me now. I can always call them and add in things in the next couple of days, but I want to get the bulk of it done as soon as possible. I will also order a few extras of each book for last minute orders, too. If you have misplaced the information, you can find it on my blog here: My Books. Please remember that all profits from The Learner's Journal go to a mission project in Malawi. Proceeds from The Real Life Home School Mom and Common Sense Excellence fund my book buying habit, which is where I get a lot of ideas for writing the Hope Chest. If you want one of these books but can't afford the full price, send me an e-mail and we'll work something out!I put a practical new article on my blog that will be helpful to many of you: Saving Money on Groceries. I wrote it after a friend asked me for help taming her food budget. I read dozens of articles on-line, and gleaned from them and from 30 years of grocery shopping experience, much of it for a large family. You may also wish to read Two Dozen Years and Counting which is about how I met my husband, as well as the importance of hospitality and serving.Jeannie Fulbright has had a whole bunch of great blog posts recently, especially on the writing process, lesson planning, etc. You can check them out at Jeannie's Journal. Jeannie is also the author of the elementary Apologia science text books that we love so much and use in our co-op.Laine's Letters is also a tremendously helpful Proverbs 31 / Titus 2 e-mail resource for moms. You can find it here: Laine's Letters.Last week, Julia asked if we could watch a DVD as a family because she had borrowed Nicholas Nickleby from a friend. We watched it again when Mary was in town this past weekend. Based on the Charles Dickens novel, it is the story of a noble-hearted but penniless young man who must take responsibility for his mother and sister when his father dies. There are all sorts of ruthless villains, but Nicholas is a shining example of integrity, courage, and kindness. Perhaps that will make more of an impression on my kids than my lectures. Anyway, the movie was well worth the time, and I highly recommend it! There are several versions of the movie, but the one we watched was produced by Douglas McGrath, with Charlie Hunnam playing the title role and Christopher Plummer as the wicked Uncle Ralph. Our younger kids (ages 7 and down) didn't "get" the movie, and it is PG for some violence and suggestive language (which is very clearly portrayed as WRONG), so you may wish to watch it before your children if you have any questions.OK, that's about it for now!Blessings,Virginia Knowles-- To subscribe, send ANY message to: [email protected] To unsubscribe, send ANY message to: [email protected] Visit my web site at www.VirginiaKnowles.com
