A Heart That Says Yes

As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the
tax office. And He said to him, "Follow Me." So he arose and followed
Him. Matthew 9:9We watched the screen in silent horror. It was an excerpt from a
Dateline documentary (msnbc.msn.com/id/9006024) on the war in
Northern Uganda. Little children, known as "night commuters," leave
their villages and walk for miles to dilapidated shanty towns in hopes
of finding safety from the terrors that lurk in the dark. In the
morning they return home to prepare for school, not knowing if home will
still be there. Most have known no other life.A maniacal lunatic who thinks himself a reincarnation of Christ has
ruled their world through fear for nearly 20 years. He raids villages
at night, abducts boys and girls as young as 6, forces them to kill
their parents, and enlists them in his army where they must kill or be
killed. The Dateline report says his army numbers 30,000 children;
local estimates are closer to 50,000.But God.
Fourteen months ago, God called a young woman named Carol to move to a
place where even the national army fears to tread. She sought out local
pastors, set up houses of prayer, and brought in bibles in the local
language. She established a portable bible school where she trains up
to 100 people at a time for two months, gives each of them five bibles,
and sends them back on a mission to start a bible study in their
village. She hosts monthly prayer conferences, and people ride their
bicycles for days to hear the word, worship and pray. She is setting up
homes for the children with widows as house moms. As a result, hope is
once again beginning to flicker in the soul of the nation - all because
one heart dared to say yes.Not all of us are called to do what Carol is doing, or to be a Mother
Theresa or a Billy Graham, but all of us have something within us that
God can use to change the world. Hmmm...I wonder what would happen if
we all just said yes?Yes, Lord. Not why, how, or later; just yes. For Your glory. Amen.
