Dear Hope Chest readers,For those of you who have just joined the Hope Chest list after reading an article in Above Rubies magazine, WELCOME! This is not one of our regular bi-monthly issues. If you would like to see the last few back issues, please let me know at [email protected]. The next issue will come out in July, God willing. If you are skimming this e-mail quickly, please read all the way down, because I have some questions and comments for you about the Learner's Journal, Common Sense Excellence, book ordering, and health issues. For your convenience, I have put these in bold-underline.If you used the Learner's Journal lesson planner and record log last year, could you tell me if there anything that needs to be changed? I need to take it to the printer by Tuesday. If you have already sent in an order or query about it, thanks for your patience! They should be done by the end of the week. The cover colors available this year are eye-popping Lunar Blue, Rocket Red, Solar Yellow, Pulsar Pink and Terra Green. I can do special orders on Ivory, for those those of you who prefer a more subdued color. If you want a blank block format (no subject headings), this also needs to be special ordered. I would love to get a head count on who is planning to order this year, and what colors and format. They will cost $10 each, with quantity discounts on orders of 3 or more of any of my books. The web page for the Learner's Journal is: http://www.hopechest.homestead.com/LearnersJournal.htmlI feel like I'm in labor trying to push out my new book, Common Sense Excellence. Since I printed out the manuscript for my editing team last month, I have added more than 50 pages and reorganized/edited everything else. Since it is now over 210 full-size pages, I'm having to bump up to a big 5/8" comb-binding, too. At this point, I think it is one of the most comprehensive and balanced guides for home schooling the preschool and elementary grade levels. I pray that it will be a blessing to those who read it, whether they are first time home schoolers or seasoned veterans. In the next few days, I need to tuck in the last few Scripture verses and book recommendations, print it out, proof it for typos again, finalize the Table of Contents and appendices, and print the master copy. Once it is safely at Sir Speedy Printers on Friday, I can turn my attention to preparing a Common Sense Excellence workshop for Regent Academy's first annual book fair on June 15. (It will be at Metro Life Church in Casselberry, Florida, for those of you who live in the Orlando area.) I would love to have a head count for those who are interested in ordering Common Sense Excellence, too. It will cost around $20 per copy.I would like to minimize PayPal orders this year, since I have to pay a service charge on these. I will still accept PayPal from those who need to use it, but would prefer checks. If possible, send me an e-mail before you order anything, so I can make sure and have it in stock. I am currently out of some of my Cindy Rushton titles. I still have a few copies of Nancy Campbell's Power of Motherhood study guide at $18 each.PLEASE PRAY FOR US! These past few weeks have been a real challenge, not only with the new book, but also with family health issues. If anybody has has successful experience in treating chronic and acute anemia in teenage girls OR severe psychiatric problems in relatives, please let me know! Thad's older sister, who currently lives in a local group home, is seeking options for short-term in-hospital Christian psychiatric treatment to help her break free from 22 years of mental illness. (She has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, manic depression and obsessive compulsive disorder.) I am on the phone praying with her at least once a day, just to give her hope for what is otherwise a very bleak future. Pray for God's grace and mercy on us all! Thanks for your prayers and feedback,Blessings,Virginia Knowles
