A Voice from the distant past
Quote from Forum Archives on December 24, 2024, 10:55 amHello, fellow pilgrim!Yes, it has been ages -- well over a year, in fact -- since I wrote my last "Shoulders" letter. More than once I've thought about resurrecting the project, but ministry schedule, two major writing projects, and a need to simplify things for this old man and his wife have prohibited me from doing that just yet. I have just now completed the manuscript to Making Disciplers Who Make Disciplers (sub-title, "Go Tell Someone What I Just Told You!), and it is now in the hands of the publisher.Based on our years of experience as pastor and missionaries, it puts in print many of the principles we used in Kyiv in training and sending leaders to reach their respective people groups. I'm humbled and honored that several people whom I trust have endorsed the book, including our longtime friend, Dr. Robert E. Coleman (Master Plan of Evangelism). Even some of my original "Timothy's" who were subjected to my initial mentoring efforts have responded positively. The basis of the book is two-fold: first, we have made discipling disciplers far more complicated than it actually is by creating it into a "plan" or a "program"; second, the very principle of discipling disciplers is more than a suggestion -- it is a legally binding commission mandated to us by our Savior and King. It can be rejected, and it can be disobeyed, but it cannot be ignored. If we are not engaged in that process -- which does NOT happen from the pulpit on Sunday morning, I might add -- we are being blatantly disobedient to Christ's commission.I have no idea at the moment when the book will be available, but I am also considering releasing it in a PDF form. It is being translated into a number of languages which have not yet been finalized. Also, I've been writing a manuscript on the real facts and biblical truth about the issue of Palestine and Palestinians as it relates to the current situation in the Middle East. Other than an eventual PDF form, I'm not certain about publication.
So much for my reasons for not writing my "Shoulders" letters. I pray that this brief note finds you well and rejoicing in the Lord. With that hope in my heart, I shout, . . .
Merry Christmas! and a Happy New Year! to you and your "kith and kin" (Old Irish term)! It seems we are just no recovering from Thanksgiving and now Christmas Day is mere hours away. So, we pray that God will give you a rich, deep, and meaningful Christmas experience. Not long ago we received an email update from a friend we first met in the latter 1990's in Crikvenica, Croatia in which he shared an experience he had as a young man enduring some troubling circumstances around Christmas season. As he was fretting and complaining about the circumstances, he heard his brother playing his guitar and singing the wonderful Christmas song, "O, Holy Night".
As he took a breath in the middle of his tirade of complaints, his brother sang out the words, . . . "Fall On Your Knees!"
We've not been able to get that picture out of our minds. In the middle of chaos, there still remains order. That order is anchored in the reality that when Christ came as a baby, He still came as sovereign king over all the world with its wars, confusion, conflicts, heartaches, disappointments, and losses.
So, it seems to us, that it's a very good time for us to do the same thing. Hopefully, you feel the same way.
