acoustic string choice?/Alchemy?

Posted by: bjthomas44 <bjthomas44@...>

Stan.   Thanks!  A salesman at Guitar Center didn't have anything good to say about the Alchemy strings.  He also kept saying Elixir's G sttngs break all the time.  His choice (and what he kept pitching to me) was EXP.

I've seen a place online (Strings and Beyond) that have the Alchemy strings for either $7.99 or $8.99, can't remember which offhand.  Might be worth a try.

Thanks.

Hey Bryan.  I used to use Elixers just because they lasted so long, but never did like the slick feel or the tone.  They sounded okay, but never as alive as say D'Addario (sp?) EJ-17s.  After trying several coated strings for extended periods, a friend gave me a set of Dean Markley Alchemy strings.  I fell in love with them.  They have the tone, ring and bells of top quality strings and they last for months.  I play a lot, and get on average five to six months out of a set.  They're around $13.00 a set, but at $2 to $3 a month playing 1 to 3 hours a day, I call that a bargain.  There are two types of Alchemy string.  Gold Phos, and Gold Bronz.  On the Alvarez, I'd recommend starting with Gold Bronz.  If they prove too bright then Gold Phos will likely fit the bill.
I've used premium strings from Martin, DR, D'Addario, Elixer, and several others.  I loved the sound of
DR's but they didn't last and on occasion I'd get dead strings.  I have never been as satisfied with anything as I am the Dean Markley's.

Best to ya
Stan
