It's about a 50/50 chance whether the fingerboard will be flat enough up
around the body joint to support a really low action. If you're lucky,
and there isn't too much of a hump or a kick-up at the end of the board,
a fret dress and a setup might net you a guitar that plays almost as
easy as your electric, without changing string gauges.I said I had the action set really low. That's what I said. The reality
is the action was a little higher than I realized. I detuned, loosened
the neck screws and cranked the neck tilt adjustment. When I tightened
and tuned I had the guitar I bought back. The adjustment was very small
but the difference is amazing. Played very easy. I left the 10's on it.
The graphite nut appears to have been set up for 10's. I do not believe
I could go heavier without filing but like I said before I really like
the sound of the 10's on this instrument. Used it all Sunday evening
without finger pain. Almost as effortless as my electric. I did notice
the kick-up at the end is very slight but present. I get minor buzzing
starting at around the 19th or 20th fret but so what I never play up
there anyway.I will try the eq trick - I don't understand why it works but as long as
it helps it doesn't matter. Sunday through the amp I turned the bass
down tried to minimize hitting the 6th string. Thanks - you are a genius!
Peace
