Hello;I have just joined this list. I have to tell you what a blessing it is to
find all of you out there.
I will post my intro in my next message.I just wanted to quickly respond to the Attachment disorder subject. I have
an almost 12 year old biological son. When he was born I was only 17. We
were both ill when he was born due to a staff infection. He also was
jaundiced. I was about 3000 miles away from all my family during the entire
pregnancy. I had never felt so alone. This was the first child for my
husband and I. The doctors put him under the lights in an incubator. I was
only allowed to nurse him for moments at a time. They really discouraged me
to touch him or disturb him in any way. Within moments of his birth instead
of letting me learn how to nurse they gave him a bottle. He never did latch
on good while nursing and I ended up being encouraged to just give him a
bottle with formula. I wish today that I had never listed to the doctor's
and nurses there. As I look upon the list I see many symptoms that my dear
son has. I also am not a big believer in psychoanalysts and such. However,
I believe that those first few weeks of life are more important that the
main stream medical society can know. There is so much bonding that occurs.
I missed out on that, more tragically my son missed out on that. I feel
like we have walked through fire with him. It is a very hard road but I
know that the Lord is there for comfort. I learned much from this
experience. Some days we have great days and other days are not so
great...but each one of them are just a precious with him. We have home
schooled for 6 years and I am one of the leaders of our local support group.
There are very few people in the group that I let have a light into our
lives with my son. Unfortunately, many judge and lay blame without
understanding what is really going on.Urge them to consider carefully and let God be their guide.
In His Love,
Lori
