Advice Needed

Posted by: rsssjm <rsssjm@...>

O.k. ladies,

We are facing a decision and wanted to get some advice from you all.
We have a 94 Chevy G20 conversion van with about 125 thousand miles on it.
We still owe $6,700 on it, and are payments are $292 a month. It gets only
about 12 miles to the gallon. We've been out looking at new and newer vans
specifically the Ford Windstar and the Dodge Caravan. Buying a new or
newer vehicle would raise our monthly car payment quite a bit, but we would also
be getting into a vehicle that has better safety ratings, gets about twice the
gas mileage, looks nicer :), and shouldn't have any mechanical problems for a
long time. We are worried that we may have to replace the transmission or
engine or both soon in the van we have. The Ford Windstar van's have zero
percent financing for 60 months right now which would really help lower the
payments. In your opinion would it be better to pay more in a car payment
right now and go with a newer vehicle or take our chances that the old one
will continue to run until we get it paid off? What do you think?
