Against All Odds

The Israelites were counted and, all present, went against them. The
Israelites encamped before the enemy like two little flocks of lost kids
[absolutely everything against them but Almighty God], but the Syrians
filled the country. I Kings 20:27 AMPHave you ever been up against totally impossible odds? When nothing
short of a miracle could possibly be enough? That's exactly where the
children of Israel found themselves twice in this chapter - 7,232 men
against the combined armies of 33 kings. By human standards, it was
utterly hopeless. This vast army led by Syria's king, Ben-Hadad, besieged Samaria.
Ben-Hadad sent word to Israel's king, Ahab, that he wanted all his gold,
silver, wives, and children. Ahab, a wicked king, agreed to the terms.
When he was informed that men would arrive the next day to take away
everything in his kingdom that was pleasurable, Ahab consulted the
elders and, upon their advice, refused to consent. Ben-Hadad sent word
that Samaria would be completely destroyed in retaliation and Ahab
replied, "Don't brag before the fighting even begins. Wait and see if
you live through it" (vs. 11 CEV).Twice Israel went out to battle, and twice the vast Syrian armies were
defeated because Jehovah, the God of the impossible, for the sake of His
great name, gave victory to Israel. No matter how powerful your enemy seems, God is mightier. No matter how
competent the army arrayed against you, it can't begin to compare to
Almighty God. If you're facing impossible odds today, first bow your
heart and make sure things are right between you and God. Find out what
His word says about your situation, and remind Him of His promises
(Isaiah 62:6). God is not a man that He should lie (Numbers 23:19, 1
Samuel 15:29) and He will do all that He has spoken.Father, I thank You that You fight for righteousness and truth and You
uphold Your word. Lord, please strengthen the hands of the weary today.
In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.To subscribe: <adevotionalgroup-subscribe@welovegod.org>
