All Things Are Under His Feet

And [so that you can know and understand] what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe, as demonstrated in the working of His mighty strength, which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His [own] right hand in the heavenly [places], far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named [above every title that can be conferred], not only in this age and in this world, but also in the age and the world which are to come. And He has put all things under His feet and has appointed Him the universal and supreme Head of the church [a headship exercised throughout the church], which is His body, the fullness of Him Who fills all in all [for in that body lives the full measure of Him Who makes everything complete, and Who fills everything everywhere with Himself]. (Ephesians 1:19-23 Amplified Bible)
If reading that portion of scripture doesn’t make you want to shout, I encourage you to go back and read it again. Why? Because it’s so easy to get our focus on everything negative around us and to allow the resulting fear to loom large over our hearts. But the Word of God remains steadfast: Jesus Christ has ALL authority, ALL power (Matthew 28:18), He is FAR above any dominion of darkness, His name is far above EVERY name that is named, and ALL things are under His feet!
So then it comes down to three questions:
(1) Are you truly born again? Why is this so important? Because salvation by grace through Jesus Christ is the only way to eternal life, and because every promise in the bible and every provision of the covenant hinges on this one thing. If you’re not certain what would happen if you stepped into eternity in the next 30 seconds, you can make things right with God right now. Please pray the prayer at the end of this devotional.
(2) If the answer to the first question is yes, then the second question is: are you abiding in Him and His words abiding in you (John 15:4, 7)? It’s so easy for the cares of this world to press in, choke out the Word, and take away our time with the Lord. If you’ve lost that intimacy with God, I encourage you to press in to Him again. He’s been waiting for you.
(3) Which brings us to the third question: Do you know the provision, position, and authority you have in Christ? Too often we abdicate what rightfully belongs to us as Christians – what Jesus has already paid for on our behalf by His death on the cross – because we either don’t know our covenant rights or we don’t stand up for them. We must not be “tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching…influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth” (Ephesians 4:14). Get into the Word of God and find out what it says about you.
Father God, thank You for Your Word. It illuminates the path before me and guides my feet in the way that I should go. Rekindle in me a passion to know You through Your Word. May it be my meditation throughout the day (Psalm 119:97). In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
If your very next breath were your last one on earth, do you know where you would spend eternity? There is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun. Hell isn’t a party place, as some surmise; it’s a place of never-ending torment and agony. God doesn’t want any human being to go there, that’s why He made a way so that you don’t have to. The price has already been paid; all you have to do is accept it. If you’ve never asked Jesus to be your Savior and Lord, or you need to come back to intimacy with Him, please pray this prayer, not from your head, but from your heart.
Dear Jesus, I know I’m a sinner. I’m not living right, doing right; I’m not in fellowship with You, but I want to be. Jesus, I believe You died on the cross for me, that You rose again for me, and that you stand at the right hand of God praying for me. I ask you to come into my heart, be my Savior and my Lord. I believe that you are the Son of God, the only way to heaven. I give You my life, and ask You for a new heart. Change me from the inside out; make me clean and help me to live for You. God, You’re now more than my God; You’re my Heavenly Father. Thank You for loving me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
