Another Word for Today SUPPLEMENT

Dear friends,

After reading this message, I decided that I had to send
this one out, too. It contains two of the scriptures that I
have memorized and think about often. You see, this message
reminds me that I am unable to do things on my own; when I
try to do so, I manage to mess things up, sometimes quite
badly. Yet, with God, not only are all things possible, but
He is able to do immeasurably more than all that I can ever
ask or imagine, and He can even do it IN me and THROUGH me!

When I think about these things, it reminds me to remain
near to God at all times - not so much that I do or get what
I want, but so that I can do the things that God wants for
me. Some times, those do not always seem to be the things
that I want, at least, not at first. But I have learned
to trust God's judgement far better than my own. So
in that way, and for that reason, plus the fact that I love
Him and trust Him, I know that His ways are much better.

Scripture confirms this: Here are the words the prophet
Isaiah records, coming directly from God: 8 "For my thoughts
are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD. 9 "As the heavens are higher than the
earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts
than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Today's Devotional

I Can't Do That

Matthew 19:26 - Jesus looked at them and said, "With man
this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
(NIV)

Alex was trying to learn a new Bible verse. It wasn't an
easy one to learn, so Alex gave up.

"I can't do it," he said.

"You cannot or you will not?" Grandpa asked.

"What's the difference?" Alex asked.

"Tell me some things you really can't do," said Grandpa.

Alex thought about this for a moment and responded with
this: "I can't swim across the ocean, I can't dig a hole to
China, and I can't disappear," he said.

"Very good!" said Grandpa. "Now, is learning one Bible verse
one of those kinds of things?"

Alex thought again. He had learned many Bible verses
before. He knew he could learn this one if he worked long
enough and hard enough. "I can learn this Bible verse," Alex
said, "And I will!"

Consider some things that we really cannot do, such as
jumping over a building, flying by flapping two arms, or
memorizing the whole Bible in an hour. In our dailylives,
sometimes we get too caught up in just doing the tasks at
hand that we become overwhelmed and begin to tell ourselves
that we can't do these things. The end result is that we see
ourselves as failures or low achievers. But when we turn to
God for the strength we need to accomplish our daily tasks,
then we are able to accomplish more than we can imagine.

Ephesians 3:20-21 - Now to him who is able to do
immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to
his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the
church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for
ever and ever! Amen. (NIV)

Prayer: Sovereign Lord, teach and guide us to know what we
really cannot do, as well as what we should not do. Help us,
Lord, to discern more effectively what we can do and what we
should do. Give us the daily strength to accomplish our
everyday tasks that seem so daunting. Then show us how to do
what You want us to do. In your name we pray. Amen.
