As in the Days of Noah

"And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation." (Genesis 7:1)

"And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man." (Luke 17:26)

Now we will conclude.

Conclusion: The Delivering Reward for the Righteous

At least three things were true of Noah concerning his rescue from the flood of God's judgment.

A.  He was Ready

As previously stated, God saw Noah as righteous and that was the reason He gave for allowing Noah to enter the ark before the flood came. Noah wasn't just trying to be righteous; he actually was in a continual state of righteousness and therefore was ready.

"Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not." (Luke 12:40)

"And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut." (Matthew 25:10). In this parable of the ten virgins (five wise; five foolish), the foolish virgins were gone in the process of getting ready when the bridegroom returned, and when they came back they could not enter.

B.  He was on Time

Though Noah did not know exactly when he would be entering the ark, he was on time. He lived not only in a state of constant readiness, but also in a spirit of expectancy. When God told him it was time to enter the ark, Noah's ear was attuned to God's voice.

"But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father." (Mark:13:32)

There is coming a time when the Father will say to the Son, "It is time to get your Bride!" When that time comes only those of us who are ready and looking for Him will be taken up in the Rapture.

"So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation." (Hebrews 9:28)

At Christ's first coming into the world, God had told a saint named Simeon that he would not die until he had seen the Christ. I believe it is possible that God just might give a sense of the nearness of the Rapture to those that are living closest to Him. Note that I did not say we could know exactly, but rather the Lord might help us through His Spirit to sense the nearness of His return.

Oh that we would live with a spirit of expectancy. I have heard someone say something like, "I believe Jesus will return this year."; another said that we should get up every day saying, "Jesus is coming today." While I understand and agree with the sentiment of such statements, they seem rather artificial to me and could do more to hinder than to help faith. What I am talking about is a true attitude of welcome and eager anticipation for Christ to rapture the Church and to return to rule over the earth.

There is a song that says, "Wait a little longer please Jesus."; but, we should pray with John the Beloved, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus."

C.  He was Saved

Noah followed through on the building of the ark according to all that God had commanded him. Then at last, once the ark was completed and Noah and his family had entered the ark, God Himself shut the door. Noah was safe inside while the flood waters destroyed all of mankind outside the ark.

There was no doubt about whether Noah was saved from the flood. He was absolutely and certainly saved. Even so, it may be true of us today. We can follow God in righteousness all the way into the heavenly city of God. Then on that Great Coronation Day we may certainly worship at the feet of Christ Jesus.

"And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved." (Matthew 10:22)

Let us all like Noah be ready, be on time, and finally be saved from this ungodly generation and the judgment to follow.

"...Save yourselves from this untoward generation." (Acts 2:40)
