BEFORE CREATION

No wondrous angel waves his wings,
no tittering bird takes to the skies,
no vaulted blue envelopes east and west.
Sight cannot see a star;
The first ray of fullsome light
yet waits to warm a shadowed world.
No universe stretches years into space,
no time, no change, no tension, no flow.
Beginnings are not, but God eternal,
alone, is and lives and loves.
