Bjarne Stroustrup story [X-FB]

Posted by: rbrown <rbrown@...>

So there we were, my boss and I, at the big software developer's
conference in San Francisco, and hanging out by the book store in the
lobby. We had heard that Bjarne Stroustrup, inventor of C++, would be
attending the conference, autographing copies of his famous book, "The
C++ Programming Language," and also delivering a C++ seminar.

My boss and I (neither of us big "C" fans) speculated about what the
seminar would be about. My boss said jokingly, "I bet it'll be called,
'Why I Did This To You.'"

A lanky programmer-type with glasses overheard us, and apparently
disagreed. "More like, 'Why I Did This _For_ You'," he commented.

Well everybody has his own opinion, we noted. Before we could respond,
the lanky guy with glasses turned away again...

...and continued autographing copies of "The C++ Programming Language."

My boss & I tried to remain invisible for the remainder of the
conference.
