Six years ago, my wife gave me an Epiphone Dot for our twentieth
anniversary. About a year later, someone broke into our church, on
Sunday, between services and stole the guitar. It was covered by
insurance, and I was compensated for the guitar and GK2-A Midi pickup
at the suggested retail price. This was enough for me to purchase my
Godin LGXT-SA on a closeout. Well, the Godin is a nice guitar, much
better than the Dot, but not as dear to me because the Dot was a gift
from my wife. Besides that, I've always liked the feel of a 335 type
guitar.Anyway, I was looking at guitars on eBay (hey - I know you all do
too!) and there was an Epiphone Dot just like the one that was
stolen. Starting bid was $110. As I read the discription, I noted
that the seller said that it needed a neck reset. That is expensive
if you take the guitar to a luthier, but having just completed
building a travel guitar for our missions trip to Brazil, I felt I
could probably reset the neck. So I bid. I was the only one that
bid. I recieved the guitar on Friday. Not a scratch on it, but the
strings were lying on the frets. I measured the neck angle and found
that it was withing spec. The problem was that somebody had filed the nut down to the
fretboard. I was going to replace the plastic nut with a bone nut
anyway, so I headed down to Guitar Center to pick up a bland. A
couple hours shaping the new nut, installation, a new set of strings
and the guitar was playing and looking like I had just picked it up
at the music store. Played it at church last Sunday.Bless the Lord, for He is good. His mercy endures forever!
