"AMERICA's GREAT REVIVALS" (95 pages).
This is an awesome book put out by Bethany House Publishers
about the massive waves of Revival that hit America from the year
1734 to 1899 - over 150 years of "Great Awakenings".
In it you will find out about the First Great Awakening - which
really started with the entire town of Northampton being converted
and coming into a Revival state! Find out about Jonathan Edwards's
famous sermon, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" and the
visits that George Whitefield made to America, in which tens
of thousands of people were converted. -How the fire fell and
totally transformed the entire nation for Jesus.
In the section on the Second Great Awakening, find out how God
would draw tens of thousands of people together in the middle
of nowhere - with perhaps 5 or more preachers preaching at
once! Great conviction would descend, hundreds would fall down
before God, weeping and repenting, and then would be filled with
forgiveness and joy! -Find out too about the strange excesses
which plagued this Revival in its early days. -But the Revival
overcame them and went on in power!
In the section on the Great 1857 Prayer Revival, find out how it
started with a tiny, discouraging prayer meeting in New York, but
then exploded nationwide until millions of people were praying
daily in huge prayer meetings across America - and then the world!
Literally millions were converted in this one Revival alone!
This book also has an excellent section on the great evangelists
of that time, such as Charles Finney and Dwight L. Moody.
All in all, a wonderful book, which I highly recommend. It is truly
designed to set your spiritual life on fire - and ignite your prayers!
