Books by Lauraine Snelling

Read some good books lately...

I started a series a few years ago, but never finished it.  It is called Dakota Treasures and is by Lauraine Snelling.  The books at Ruby, Pearl, Opal and Amethyst.  I just read the last 2.  This is a fun series set in the Dakotas back in the pioneer days. Ruby and Opal are sisters.  Their mom has died and their father has gone west.. leaving them in the East with a promise to send for them.  And he does... but when they arrive they find the "hotel" he owns is not a hotel, but something entirely different.. and their father is dying.  That begins the first book.. Ruby.  The story continues through the other 3 books as the lives of the "girls" who worked at Dove House and those of Ruby and Opal change drastically from what they are use to.  These are not deep thinking books.. they are most definitely light reading.. and very entertaining.

I finished another book by Snelling last night.. it is A Promise for Ellie and is book 1 in her latest series - Daughters of Blessing.  Great book! I look forward to the other books in this series.. once they are released! I did realize that she has 2 earlier series that tie into this one.  They all deal with the same families.. just different generations.  I am hoping our library has the earlier series.  A Promise for Ellie is set in 1900... in North Dakota...the families are of Norwegian and German descent... Ellie has grown up knowing she will one day marry Andrew... and that day is coming soon. They will graduate and then get married.. but things happen and the wedding is postponed until fall.. then tragedy strikes and it looks as if there may not be a wedding at all.  There are many other characters in this book.. I expect we will learn more about them in the other books in this series. This book was a light read also, but a bit meatier than the Dakota Treasures series.

I recommend them all!  Barb
