Cannot display page

Lately I have some troubles with the internet. The problem seems to be with
ActiveX controls. I've run Norton system doctor and in that area there seem
to be 9 problems which cannot be automatically be repaired, only manual. The
options are either to delete some of these invalid files or to correct
manually. Neither of them I have tried since I'm not a computer whiz. I'm
scared when I delete them that it does more damage, whilst I do not know how
to correct it manually.
I think that because of this problem many times my internet (IE5) comes up
with the message "cannot display this page". Only when I restart the
computer the problem is solved.
A friend of mine advised me to reinstall IE5. Yet even there I don't know
exactly what to do. I thought that I then first have to uninstall. Yet IE5
does not come up under the add/remove program in the control panel. If I put
my disk of IE5 in, it comes up with the message that I have already a newer
version, so it does not do a thing.I hope I have made my problem clear and I'm looking forward to get some help
one way or another.OH yes, I also checked DirectX, it said I had to reinstall it. So I
downloaded Directx 7a from the Microsoft side and installed it over the old
one.That's all.
Thanks in advance
