"Cats" is not excactly cutting edge stuff in terms of using it in church.
Dr. James Dobson quoted the song in it's entirety in his first film series that
coined the phrase "Focus on the Family" back in the early 1980's, which was
sadly about the time Harry Chapin was killed in a car wreck.Dr. Dobson's endorsement of it--- he stated he had never heard a stronger,
more powerful statement about parental priorities in any sermon--- and Chapin's
untimely death resulted in "Cats" being used in lots of churches. I loved it
because it gave me an excuse to play my guitar in church! (Remember back when
you had to have an excuse to play guitar in church?)Truth is truth whether or not it explicitly mentions God or the blood! When
a secular communicator makes our case for us, we should follow Dr. Dobson's
example of 20 years ago by embracing and affirming the statement and use it
appropriately to reinforce our message.Just my $.02,
