acoustic string choice?/Alchemy?

I tried EXP's and in four sets they died (very dead) in less than 10
hours of play time. They did sound much like EJ-17's, for for a coated
string, they had no life. I have friends who have had spotty luck with
EXP's so after trying Alchemy's as far as I know, they are still using
them. Many of the guys on Flatpick-L have reported string breakage with
Elixers also.Try a set of both Alchemy strings on your guitar. Give each at least a
week to settle in because on some guitars, they (especially GoldBronz
can seem bright. My Rosewood/Sitka CB Vintage Bone likes both, but
GoldBronz is more of an 80/20 string sound while GoldPhos is a more
Phosphor Bronze (darker) tone. Some guitars need the bright boost,
like some smartwood, nato, or laminated back and side instruments.
Mahogany guitars are already brighter than rosewood and may seem jangly
with a brighter string.Bottom line is that your ears and your fingers will have to choose the
strings. I pay little attention to the preferences of salesmen. Their
often driven by promotion bonuses. My experience with Dean Markley has
been very good, and the long consistent life has made them very
economical. BTW,..Alchemy strings look a bit odd. They are gold in
color in contrast to the redish or brassy look of other strings. I
happen to like the look once it settled in.All the best.
