Maybe just a Cdim with no third? On Fri, Feb 13, 2009 at 3:05 PM, klsluder <klsluder@hpcisp.com> wrote:Hi All,
Just received the song list for Sunday. Never played a couple songs on the list before. Found chords but one of the hymns (Love Lifted Me) calls for a Cdim5. It doesn't seem necessary so I will most likely blow it off but what is a Cdim5? I sometimes use half dim and full dim as passing chords. Is a dim5 a half or full dim or something else?
Haven't posted in a while - we always do a couple hymns and a couple contemporary songs. Last week we opened with the old chorus This Is The Day. Well during practice it was about as non-exciting as it sounds. So the bass player and I have long talked about turning one of the old songs into a Ramones (blitzkrieg bop) type song. We stripped it down to 3 chords turned up the gain and a punk classic was born. It was great fun and those who will usually sing along did.
We are also working on an abandoned oldie, Ashley Cleveland's version of Revive Us Again. Once you hear her sing it you never want to hear it done the churchy way again. She takes this old 3/4 churchy song and turns it into a 4/4 blues rocker. It is a most excellent version. I have been told she did the same with What A Friend but haven't heard that one.
We also have a classic rock version of Jesus Loves Me that we plan on doing next week if things go as planned.
As for contemporary songs the newest songs we have are probably three years old. Just not hearing anything that moves me that would work with our congregation. Tomlin just doesn't seem to work for us. We use more Baloche than any one else.
Peace
Kevin
