This is me,

Mark Rouse - I've got a six year old daughter and a six week old
grandson, so I don't know if I'm supposed to see visions or dream
dreams 😉 In college, my wife (fiance at the time) was invited to
sing at a church, and when we arrived, I was told, in no uncertain
terms, that I would not be allowed to bring "the devils instrument"
into the church. "The devils instrument" was an un-electrified Martin
D-35! My how times have changed.

I've been playing in churches actively for 25 years. I owned a '68
Strat back when it was just an old guitar. Wish I still had it.
Wish I still had the D-35 (I bought it new in 1974 for $450). But
wife and I had kids and had to sell toys to pay bills.... But I
regress.

Right now, I'm playing a Godin LGX-SA through a Roland GR-09 Synth.
Magnetic picups go to a POD, and the piezo's go to a Zoom 504.
Output from each device goes through seperate Morley volume pedals
into a small Mackie mixer. Mackie output is to an DBX 266XL
compressor to an Alesis DEQ230 EQ. Processed signal goes to the
house via an ART Cleanbox. I've also got a QSC 850 watt amp in my
rack and a pair of Bose 800 speakers if I need them. I usually set
things up so the piezo's are panned mostly left, the magnetics are
panned mostly right and the synth is centered in the mix since it
already produces a stereo image. This provides a lot of seperation
between the acoustic and electric sounds. This is absolutely the
most versital rig I have ever seen. I can go from acoustic rhythm on
a verse, add electric on the chorus, while strings sustain in the
background without changing guitars and without doing anything with
my hands except play the guitar. I got started building this rig
when my family was helping plant a church. My son, who was 12 at the
time, played drums, I played guitar and my wife led worship. We had
no other musicians. It was interesting when people would come to
visit the church. They would look around at first, trying to find
the keyboard and the other guitar player.

Currently, I'm building a travel guitar that I will be taking on a
missions trip to Brazil in March. The whole thing breaks down. I
can get the guitar, my synth, a Zoom 505II and a couple volume pedals
in a case that measures 18" X 13" X 6". The guitar started life as a
SAGA guitar kit that a friend gave me. Cut down the body, converted
the neck to headless. Built a quick-release mechanism for the neck.
Switched to a SD Jazz pickup. This has been a very interesting
project, and I will keep you informed as to it's success.

That's about it. I've enjoy this list but don't contribute much, as
my style is way out of date (think Allman Brothers meet the Eagles)
but I thought I'd into myself so you'll would know that there are
some of us old coots out here.

IHS,

Mark Rouse
