I'm like a kid the night before Christmas, so I thought I'd share with a bunch of people who understand...

 

About 2 years ago, my wife arranged for me to receive a "surprise" gift of lifetime- an acoustic baritone, hand-crafted by my good friend, Tony Karol (www.karol-guitars.com).

 

To give you an idea, Bruce Cockburn plays a mahogany Karol baritone.

 

Betty advised me that it's finished, although all I know about the guitar, is that the back and sides are tightly flamed mahogany, it has a side port, and it comes with a K&K pickup. Although I will get to see and hear it on September 29th, when Stephen Bennet demos it at a concert in Toronto, my wife insists that I won't get to take it home until my birthday, later in October.

 

Needless to say, I was already feeling pretty blessed, but as if my cup wasn't already overflowing, I just landed a beautiful Warmoth baritone Strat off eBay, pretty much by accident.

 

It was love at first sight, but was pretty sure I didn't have enough $$$ to close the deal. Sure enough, I was outbid early on, but the high bidder dropped out, and the seller decided to honour my rather pathetic bid, which was considerably less than the price of the parts!

 

Specs as follows:

- 1 and 11/16" wide/slim 24-fret baritone neck in Wenge, with black Ebony fingerboard

- Heavily figured hardtail Korina body

- Hand-rubbed Tung oil finish

- Schaller locking tuners, all hardware including pickguard in black

- 5-way, Vol, Tone and a "blow switch", for all 7 pickup combinations

- Copper foil shielding throughout

- Carvin pickups

 

I can't wait to hear it, especially once I install my set of Kinman blues.

 

Combined with the fact that I just auditioned for a new praise team, this is turning out to be a very musical September...
