piezo help

It sounds like it's a preamp issue. What you are describing is exactly
what it would be like if you were using a piezo with a pre-amp.

I would check to make sure the battery is good (which sounds like it
is). Sometimes with 9 volts, the wires on the battery plug can fray or
break, so check the battery wires next. Then I would check your guitar
jack and try a different patch cable, to see if there is a short there.
After that, you are probably looking at dismantling the preamp control
to see if there are any wires obviously loose.
