Timing - Mr Rubato

Sorry, I think I have given the wrong impression. The keyboard is not the
problem. The problem is speaking to the singers about the timing in a way
that makes sense to them. Usually I can say "listen to the CD" in this case
the CD version is played freestyle ("rubato" - thanks Josh that is a new
word for my vocabulary). I think they are trying to imitate the CD, however
since the lead instrument (in this case me) is not played by the lead singer
(I don't sing - they have never asked, I wonder why?) it makes it near
impossible for amateurs to pull off. The keyboardist and I agreed we would
hold to a more structured timing. So as long as she stops playing and
becomes the choir director everything goes fine. She can't count out loud
and play at the same time on this one and neither can I. I thought about
the metronome but have never seen one that would let you program two
alternating time signatures. We will get there with practice. Just looking
for a short cut I guess.
