I was jealous that I, the big athlete who could take all three of them at once, wasn't getting any attention and they were getting lots. So, my dad had a el cheapo $50 acoustic guitar with the strings 3 inches above the fret board and I bought a book of chords and started teaching myself how to play. I didn't really get into it until about a year later, though, when I borrowed a Teisco electric from a friend (wish I still had it). The rest, as they say, is history.
So, yeah, I got started for pretty selfish and childish reasons. I'm glad I have better reasons to play now...
P.S. My cousin Penny, one of those cousins who visited that summer, was very cute and I had a bad, and I mean bad crush on her. If only she hadn't been my cousin... DOH!
