Christmas, 2002
Dear Friends and Family,
Many years ago an Angel appeared to a group of shepherds on a hillside near Bethlehem and announced in Luke 2:10-11, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. It is our prayer this Christmas that you have found the great joy of knowing Jesus Christ as your Savior and that you are rejoicing in the hope of eternal life. We also pray that your joy in Christ will continue in the New Year and strengthen you as you encounter new challenges.
As you know, this is the time of year when we give you our annual report of the far-flung activities of the Peters Family. We got an early start on blessings this year with the arrival of Jared Adam Peters on January 6th. He was born to Mark and Candace and has been charming Grandma and Grandpa Peters and everyone else. He's a happy child and a joy to have around.
Speaking of happy children that are a joy to have around, Nicole and Ty, belonging to David and Carletta, have been just that as well. Nicole (5) started kindergarten this fall and Ty (3) has enjoyed having Mommy all to himself for a few hours each day. Nicole is enamored with anything that has to do with princesses and Ty just loves horses of any kind!
Tim and Donna (Spayd) made some additions to their family this year. First, they added a new home in Harrisburg. It's a lovely townhouse with large rooms and 2 and 1/2 bathrooms. They have so much room that they have added Donna's cat, Muffin, to the household. (That means Dottie and I have no more pets. We are blessed!) Tim continues to work on computers and to sing with his church's worship team. Donna is still teaching at a Christian School, and has returned to the elementary area, teaching 3rd grade. They are also active in a small group ministry as a part of their church.
Dave and Carletta have completed three years at the Markleysburg Union Church where Dave serves as pastor. Carletta writes the church newsletter, sings with the worship team, and teaches Sunday School. Dave's hobby is hunting and so far this year he has shot an 8-point buck and two does. It was a joy for Dave and I to hunt together for the very first time this year. Dave and Carletta cut up and can their own venison.
Mark and Candace continue to live in Pittsburgh, but perhaps for not much longer. Candace has finished her coursework for her Bachelor's degree with an organ major. She gave a wonderful senior recital. Mark is working towards finishing his dissertation this spring and plans to receive his doctorate in classic musicology from the University of Pittsburgh in April. They are still active in their church where Mark is a deacon and both sing in the choir. Mark has been busy filling out applications for employment as a college professor.
Dottie is enjoying being a full time pastor's wife, visiting often with Jack, teaching a ladies' Bible study, and teaching in Junior Church four months a year. I think her favorite occupation is being grandma to Nicole, Ty, and Jared! She loves spending time with them.
Jack has just completed his 27th year as a pastor and is in his fifth year at Mount Union Bible Church. He still enjoys preaching and teaching God's Word, visiting, sending Sermon Seeds outlines to an internet audience, maintaining his website, and serving as Spiritual Advisor to the State Board of Child Evangelism Fellowship.
One of the highlights for 2002 was a 30th anniversary picnic given in our honor by our children. Dottie and I were married June 10th, 1972. We thank God for His goodness to us over the years.
We want to again wish you a very merry Christmas and the happiest of New Years. Thank you for being part of our large circle of family and friends.
With love,
Jack and Dottie Peters
