Cleaning Help needed

Posted by: amazinggraze <amazinggraze@...>

Deanna, (or anyone else)

Most of you know that we bought an Amish home. The walls and ceilings are shiny white paint. We have lived here almost 2 years. We use kerosene lamps for most of our lighting and a wood cookstove is our only source of heat in the house. The walls and especially the ceilings are covered in soot or something like it. We did not even realize how bad it was until my very tall son, stretched and ran his fingers along the ceiling and left stripes. We have tried several cleaners and cleaning instruments to clean it off with. None of them have worked wonderful. The best we have found is straight or almost straight ammonia, which is not too good for the lungs. We have used a green scrubby scotchbrite pad, we have used rags, and we have used the wall and ceiling mops that the Amish have. I think we let it go too long to use just the mop. Does anyone know of something that will cut through this stuff, with out ruining our lungs? Any help would be appreciated.

Wanting to please my Lord and Savior,
Marci, Adopted List Momma
