Listen to some of our sermons online****************************************************************"Common things for all"
I. IntroductionA. (I Cor. 10:13) Temptations....B. This mentions something that is COMMON TO MAN.C. There are many things COMMON TO MAN.D. We want to consider a few of them.II. Things common to manA. We start with our text--A COMMON TEMPTATION1. All are tempted the same way
a) (I Jn 2:15) Lust of flesh, lust of eyes, pride of life
b) (Heb 4:15) Jesus was tempted in ALL POINTS LIKE AS WE ARE
(Matt 4:1-11) hunger--lust of flesh
pinnacle--cast self down--pride of life
kingdoms, their glory were shown--lust of eyes
But Jesus "hid the word in his heart" and did not sin!
We can appreciate that Jesus was tempted in ALL points too
c) (Gen 3:6) The temptation of woman in the garden
She saw the fruit, good for food--lust of flesh
Pleasant to the eyes--lust of the eyes
To make one wise--pride of life
d) There's one thing the Devil DOESN'T LIKE...
A doctor may give us vitamins, to build up our
resistance to disease or infectionThe devil CAN'T STAND RESISTANCE!
(James 4:7-8) Resist the Devil, and he'll flee from
youB. A common SALVATION (Jude 1:3)But how is it that salvation is COMMON to men?1. All are invited to enjoy it. (Mark 16:15-16)
a) This gospel extends an invitation that is worldwide in
its scope
b) EVERY creature--ALL nations
c) (Matt 11:28) Come unto me ALL YE THAT LABOR...
d) (Rev. 22:17) The Spirit and the Bride say "come"...
"WHOSOEVER WILL" let him come...2. All must DO THE SAME THING to enjoy it.a) Preachers may make you think there are many different ways
b) EVERY CASE OF CONVERSION in the book of Acts--they all
DID THE VERY SAME THING!
(1) They Heard the word
(2) They Believed the word
(3) They Obeyed the word.
--now some had already done some things, others had
already done others so they were told different things
--but all obeyed the SAME PLAN
(4) (Acts 2:38) Believers asked--told "repent and be
baptized"
(5) (Acts 8:36-9) A man who repented asked--told to
confess and be baptized
(6) (Acts 16:30) An unbeliever asked--told to believe
first, then told the other things
c) This same plan of salvation is AVAILABLE NOWd) Right now you are reading the gospel--hearing can and will
produce faith in your heart
e) You likewise must DO THE SAME THING THEY DID to be saved.C. A common FAITH1. Listening to men, we may get the idea that there are MANY
FAITHS acceptable to God.2. As of December of last year (2002) there were catalogued in
North America some 2000+ faiths.3. (Tit 1:4) Paul wrote of the COMMON FAITH
What is there about this faith that makes it common?4. There is just one of thema) (Jude 1:3) Contend for THE FAITH...How many is THE FAITH?
b) (Eph 4:1-6) One faith...How about 2000+ ? NO! How about
two...NO! NOT EVEN TWO!
c) If people are telling you about MANY FAITHS they must be
READING THE WRONG BOOK!
d) We have to understand about the way "FAITH" is used in the
Bible...
(1) Faith can mean "to believe in" (Heb 11:6) Believe
that He is..."
(2) Faith can mean "the faith" (Gal 1:23) preached THE
FAITH
(3) What did Paul preach? (I Cor. 15:2) The GOSPEL
The Gospel is used interchangeably here with the Faith

e) Whatever the Bible says to me it says to you and vice versa
(1) An example is singing...
--He told you to do the same thing he told me to do
--we are all to sing and admonish one another, and
all to receive admonition
(2) This is why...Singing is a "common thing"
--You see no "solo performances" here
--No Choirs, no "special singing"D. A common CHURCH1. To hear people preaching today, you would think you'd find a
different church on every page of the New Testament!2. But there was just one church in the Bible
a) (Matt 16:18) "I will build MY CHURCH"
How many? One or more?
b) (Eph 4:4) ONE BODY (I Cor 12:20) ONE BODY
(I Cor 12:13) ONE BODY

surely we can.
e) (Rom 16:16) churches of Christ--they all were part of a
